🐇 ETH Upgrade, Bunnies Fade and They Got Paid

Happy Friday Folks,

Things are really heating up in the cryptosphere.

It’s been a good green week, handy as it’s St. Patrick's day!

Who knows what will happen over the weekend, but for now, let’s dive into today’s news:

  • Ethereum Staking Withdrawals Soon…Maybe

  • Playboy’s Crypto Holdings Not Looking That Pert!

  • BitBoy et al Being Sued for Promoting FTX

Ethereum Staking Withdrawals Soon…Maybe

After recent delays, Ethereum developers have finally slated the Shanghai-Capella (dubbed “Shapella”) upgrade for April 12th.Eth devs are good at many things, naming upgrades…not so much…Shapella just sounds clunky.I suppose it’s better than the purge, splurge, or sexual urge, whatever it was called.

The main feature of the upgrade is Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 4895, which should finally allow staking withdrawals on the mainnet.

FINALLY!

Many validators were disappointed to find this function was not introduced during Ethereum's switch to a proof-of-stake back in September 2022.

Besides the withdrawals, developers have also planned other improvements all aimed at “optimizing” (cough…reducing!) gas fees.

All testnet phases have now been successfully completed.

Fingers crossed (and eyes, legs, and anything else you can cross!)

Playboy’s Crypto Holdings not Looking That Pert!

Back in the heady times of 2021, Playboy launched its “Rabbitars” NFT collection, which was sold to fans for ETH.

Since the market highs of 2021the “lifestyle” brand’s ETH holdings have tumbled in value from $9 million to just $375k in December 2022.

The NFT collection features photographs of Playboy model Lenna Sjööblom, the so-called “First Lady of the Internet.”

Fun Fact: a 1972 image of Playboy model, Sjööblom was used to engineer the digital image format that would become the JPEG.

BitBoy et al. Being Sued for Promoting FTX

Ben Armstrong (BitBoy), Kevin Paffrath (Meet Kevin), Erika Kullberg, and influencers were hit with a class action lawsuit on Wednesday. The action was levied at them for promoting FTX without disclosing the nature of any payments or compensation and then, after it folded like a cheap flan, scrubbed their channels and socialism of any content promoting FTX or the hairy one.

Representing the plaintiffs is Adam Moskowitz made the following statement:

"Though FTX paid Defendants handsomely to push its brand and encourage their followers to invest, Defendants did not disclose the nature and scope of their sponsorships and/or endorsement deals, payments and compensation."

In a November 2022 YouTube video on his channel, Praffrath said:

"Yes, I used to be sponsored by FTX. I think that is a disgrace. And it’s a scar. And it sucks. If I could go back I would change it, because people got hurt because of that. I feel so terribly about that. People got hurt because of FTX, and it’s a disgrace.

Morally it’s a tricky one; SBF and his FTX stooges were clearly the cause of the collapse and all lost money, so should the buck stop there, or are the influencers who supported them partly at fault?

Regardless of what you think of them, I doubt they would have jumped on board the bandwagon if they knew what was going to happen.

What do you think?
