đź“« John Wick, YouTube and Poor Scammers

Happy Friday Folks,We made it, another week in the bag. What a week it was too, big green candles and FUD…What more could you want? All of the fun of the crypto fair!Let’s close the week off with three more magnificent news stories:

  • WAGMI, John Wick is Here!

  • YouTube's New Main Man Goes All in on Web3

  • Crypto Scammers Get Hit in Bear Markets Too!

When John Wick Speaks, We Listen!

I apologize in advance for any over-the-top fanboying, but…It’s Keanu…dude!Since escaping the Matrix in 1999, Keanu (no Mr. Reeves here, we’re on first-name terms…in my mind!) has gone on to be one of the world's most loved actors.Whether he’s buying expensive gifts for his stunt teams or giving up his underground seat to a needy passenger, the guy is a legend!Oh, and he’s a total badass. So, while being interviewed recently, the conversation drifted to crypto. It turns out that John Wick digs crypto nearly as much as he does his dog (I wonder if he owns any DOGE?).

Neo said of crypto in general:“I think the principle, the ideas behind an independent currency are amazing. These are amazing tools for exchanges and distribution of resources……So, to pooh-pooh crypto, or the volatility of cryptocurrency, it’s only going to make it better in terms of how it’s safeguarded.”

Reeves and his Partner Alexandra Grant are both advisors to the charitable organization, Futureverse Foundation. Set up and run by New Zealand-based Non-Fungible Labs. The Charity supports underrepresented artists and “seek to help keep the metaverse widely accessible, healthy and evolving”Finding out that Keanu, Neo, John Wick, John Constantine, and Johnny Utah are on our side just makes me think WAGMI.

YouTube Gets a Web3 Boost!

YouTube has a new CEO, Neal Mohan. He takes over from the very successful Susan Wojcicki, who had led the company for the last 9 years. While Wojcicki had hinted back in January that YouTube would be looking deeper into NFTs, Mohan has started his tenure with a bang.

"We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans, together, they'll be able to collaborate on new projects and make money in ways not previously possible."

The new creator tools will give a "verifiable way" for fans to "own unique videos, photos, art, and even experiences" from their favorite YouTubers.Mohan has a seriously impressive background and has led YouTube's fight against TikTok, being one of the main protagonists in the development of YouTube Shorts. In September 2020 They tested shorts in a single market (India). Within five months of testing, it was getting 3.5 billion views a day. Today, it gets 30 billion views per day.

If you're thinking about starting a YouTube channel, now seems like a great time to do it!

Crypto Scammers Hate the Bear Market Too

It turns out that scammers profit less in bear markets (Good!)Scam revenue from crypto sources in 2022 (including investment scams, NFT scams, romance scams, etc.) amounted to $5.9 billion in the year (down 46% from 2021).Most crypto scams track Bitcoin’s price, which seems logical, as the price goes up we get more people in crypto, therefore, more people to plunder from. However, it’s not all types of scams.Romance and giveaway scams forge their own path. Again, for logical reasons.Giveaway scams usually occur more around product launches, which occur throughout all markets.Romance scammers prey on the lonely. And sadly, loneliness knows no seasonality.

While the overall category total for romance scams is lower than the others, on average, each individual romance scam is bigger, 3x bigger!Dirtbags!Over to you Mr Wick...
